Kleine bleke Mohamed Ali. Hehehe.
Ondertussen stimuleren we hem thuis zoveel mogelijk.

He gives it his very best, our Frankieman, when it comes to his scribbles. He works so very hard at school. To help him, he has been going to a pediatric physiotherapist for a while. This was something his teachers recommended. This physiotherapist saw where the problem was pretty fast, and noticed how it was a combination of different issues - his insecurity, and a form of dyslexia. He was insecure because the writing wasn't going well, and the writing didn't go well because he became more insecure all the time. She praises that right out of him.
He adores her. He gets to do all sorts of fun stuff - writing, different excercises that stimulate the cooperation between his eyes, his hands and his brain, but she also teaches him how to play darts, and the both of them put on boxing gloves and beat up a bean bag. He loves that. Little pale Mohamed Ali. Hehe.
In the mean time, we try to help him as much as possible, at home. My main goal is for him to keep his enthusiasm about school and learning. It's a fine line, between helping him and frustrating him... but slowly, we're getting there.
And hey, Even if his handwriting never improves again after this...
... well, he'll just have to be a doctor.

Oh bless... I'm sure he'd make a dreat Doctor LOL... Carly was always way ahead reading but hated to write - I used to get her to write about the things she loved - donisaurs and stuff, anything - and it eventually worked... stick with it :) you;re doing great
Good progress! It's great that he's willing to work at it so hard ... wanna send some of that energy over here? Poor Owen reads remarkably well, thinks deep thoughts ... and can't seem to write them with any ease at all. If he were Malcolm, that would mean that he'd know he needed to practice. For Owen, when the teacher begins to describe a writing project, O suddenly remembers that he needs to go to the water fountain or bathroom or to sharpen his pencil or ... whatever clever work avoidance strategy he can devise. Sigh.
dokter Frank sounds good to me!
=)
how very cool ... so glad he is getting the help he needed for the writing part! She sounds like she has really found the magic too.
Cam's handwriting is definitely not his strong point, notes from the teacher are typically stating "please be neater" and he knows it, but he loves to write, and read, so in time, I am sure it will all come together.
Wow, he's doing great! So glad he has such a wonderful specialist to help him out!!!
Matthew's class just started learning cursive after the first of the year. They're slowly working their way through, adding one letter at a time. They've covered most of the lowercase. Haven't started uppercase. His handwriting has been improving overall, and he's actually much neater so far with the cursive than he is with printing.
James' handwriting is, well, never going to earn him any penmenship awards. In fact, he lost half a point on his spelling test b/c he kept writing his "a" incorrectly (he draws a circle and then keeps going 'til he adds the little line on the lower right side), and I've noticed Molly's K class spends A LOT of time working on proper formation of letters.
Anyway, HUGE KUDOS to Frankieman for working so hard; tell him someone in California is very, very proud of him. :)
Hey! I'll have you know that *my* handwriting is actually legible! That's what a bunch of nuns teaching you cursive will do...
;-)
